Watercolor pencils and Inktense pencils have distinct differences, yet more in common than not. From choosing your pencils, assessing quality and understanding paper types, you will start the course by learning about the pencils. We will study the properties and permanency with fun practical experiments. Best of all you don't need the exact same brands or colors as me. In fact Inktense and Watercolor Pencils have so much in common that even if you only own one of these mediums you can jump straight in! There are also handy tips in how to manage your workspace and store your pencils. You will never again wonder what to buy or how it works, as you gain confidence in your materials.
Techniques are the bedrock of water soluble painting and we learn loads in this course. Starting with the most basic techniques and application, you will learn how to apply and blend, with clever tricks for success. After this come the more advanced techniques including some you probably haven't seen before. Next we work on some texture samples of real surfaces you may come across, like bricks, grass, hair and more. Each of these adds in even more watercolor techniques, adapted for pencils. As you learn, you will begin to understand how to assess any surface you come across, and how applying the techniques learned in this course can help you paint anything.
In the last four modules of the course I take you through full painting tutorials: A bright, pretty satsuma fruit will teach you how to mold shapes with darks, and get a soft edged shadow on white paper. An African Iris in white and purples will give you a chance to practice botanical subjects, these first two tutorials are done on a white background. Next comes a pretty landscape, with soft blue sky, fir trees and pathway. Your watercolor pencils will make painting these trees easy! Lastly a bright green parrot on a branch will give you a chance to learn how to create feathers, plus we add a soft 'vignette' background. Photos are provided and you can paint every step with me as I take you through the video tutorials.

You want to get a good application but often get drying lines or pencil marks where you don't want them. These seem like really difficult problems, but they are easily solved with clever application solutions. Quality matters too, and you will learn to assess your materials to get the best results possible.
Of course, you want a bright, colorful result, that's what attracted you to the pencils in the first place. But if you get muddy results and fail to maintain the vibrancy of individual colors it can be as simple as just applying the water in the wrong way, or not having enough water jars. Watercolor pencils and Inktense are made for getting textures easily, but if you find your results are unrealistic and scrappy looking, you probably just need a new approach. Each module contains a video, and one or two downloadable PDFs. The accompanying PDFs are an illustrated reminder of the techniques and processes taught in the video, they include additional tips and advice to ensure understanding and success. Where appropriate a second PDF gives you copyright free photographs to work from. FULL CURRICULUM can be viewed at the bottom of this page, scroll down. **PLEASE NOTE** if buying during the introductory period, some of the later modules may still be loading onto the site, don't worry they will be ready within a few hours!
If you already have watercolor paper, water soluble pencils and brushes you may not need to buy much initially. I will not be insisting you have exact materials, colors and brands. However, there will be a video and downloadable PDF with tons of advice and suggested materials so you can choose what to buy if you don’t have anything. As we go through the videos a few other things are used including a pencil palette, embossing/knife, and a few other items. Many of these items can be replaced with stuff you already have in your house. It's best to wait until you have gone through the first few videos before investing in new pencils or equipment that you may not need.
Sometimes people buy in error or have other reasons for wanting a refund. These are entertained whenever possible.
